FHPW is looking for dynamic representatives to serve
as Assistant Directors
Assistant Directors will work closely with members of the Board of Directors to plan and
execute the critical work of the Federation of Houston Professional Women in 2010. This is a great opportunity to showcase your
capabilities, or to develop new ones, on behalf of 40+ member organizations.
At a minimum, we are looking for Assistant Directors in the following areas:
- Programs--to support the planning and execution of FHPW Programs
- Education--to support the planning and execution of FHPW Educational Events
- Social Media--to be the driver and coordinator of FHPW new Social Media channels
- Reservations--to support the effective execution of reservations and check-in for FHPW events
Assistant Directors do not have to be current delegates from their home organizations and
do not have to attend Board of Directors meetings (unless specifically requested to by the Director they're working with).
This is a great way to get insight and gain experience with FHPW's Leadership. It will also provide opportunities for
recognition. We are also looking for volunteers for committees in several areas to help at key events.
Please consider serving as an Assistant Director in 2010. If you are interested in serving or have questions, please contact:
FHPW President Beth Caplan
Email: president@fhpw.org
Phone: 281-538-1203
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to seeing all of you at future FHPW events!
Sincerely,
Beth

WPG Awards the 2009 Beverly Kaufman Scholarship
WPG is pleased to announce that Tonya Chissell-Williams has been selected as the latest recipient
of the Beverly Kaufman scholarship!
Tonya is a political science senior at the University of Houston-Downtown and is currently
working as a Civic Houston Intern in the office of Council Member Jarvis Johnson. She has also
been recently chosen as a Mickey Leland Congressional Intern for the spring 2010 semester.
Tonya moved from New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina and while still loyal to her native
city, she has decided Houston is the place to be.
Congratulations, Tonya!
Winner of the Inaugural Beverly Kufman $1,000 Scholarship
Just one month after receiving the inaugural Beverly Kaufman Scholarship award, County Judge Robert Eckels
announced his resignation and the world, as I knew it, dramatically changed. I am continuing my studies
toward a degree in Communications at the University of Houston-Downtown and still hope to utilize it in
a public service career, either with the new County Judge Ed Emmett or some other Harris County entity.
I was also named a Red Rose Scholar at the University of Houston-Downtown, which is a great honor. Red Rose
Scholars are nominated by faculty for outstanding academic achievement. I will receive $3,000 for the 2007-08
academic year from the Red Rose Scholarship, and combined with the Beverly Kaufman Scholarship award, will
have books and tuition covered for the entire school year. Not having to worry how to pay for my education
has helped alleviate the other stressors in my life of late.
Thank you WPG,
Sadia Lunsford
